The Davao Bloggers Society Acquaintance Party 2013

5/10/2013

I have been an official member of the Davao Bloggers Society since September 2012 but it was only last Friday, May 3, 2013, when I got the chance to be formally inducted during the Davao Bloggers Society Acquaintance Party held at Krispy Kreme SM Lanang Premier. I admit I already knew some of the members through the events and gatherings I have attended but I am still excited to meet and greet new faces behind the blogs I read in the threads.

It was not the "usual" acquaintance party like what other organizations do. There were no traces of alcohol and hardcore partying but nonetheless, it was the best I had attended so far. Why? It's not because of the raffle prizes, not because of the activities, not because I was one of the masters of the ceremony, not because of the good food, not because of the freebies that I took home with me, but because of the PEOPLE who I was with during that one great Friday night. Naaaaaaakkkssss!

To be honest, I was a bit hesitant to be a part of Davao Bloggers way back then. I am still a newbie in the blogging industry and I had just started my blog when I learned about the organization. Plus, I don't know anyone in the blogging community not until I discovered that my friend Sarah also joined the organization. But hey, I'm glad I took the risk. Having been a part of this organization is life-changing for me. I'm pretty sure I made you raise your eyebrows after reading that line but I think I have enough reasons to back up such claim.

Being a Davao Blogger molded me to become more sociable. I met new people, made new connections and expanded my social circle. Together with that, getting invited to certain events boosted my confidence and self-esteem as well, not only because I do get the chance to dress up and prettify myself but because it's knowing that receiving an invitation stems from the fact that my blog got noticed from among the thousands of other blogs in the blogosphere. For me, I already considered it as an achievement.

Being a Davao Blogger has also made me more disciplined. I became more respectful and considerate of other people's time regardless of whether if they also respect mine as well. I succumbed to dress codes and standards out of respect for the organization's name and credibility which I will protect since I'm an integral part of it.

Being a Davao Blogger also inspired me to be more intellectual and competitive. From logo quizzes, mind-boggling activities, bowling games and Trivia Nights, I have to keep my brain cells alive and kicking all the time and to always stay on top of the game, or else I cannot enjoy the prize of the game. It just feels so good after making even just a single contribution to shoot that score up and later on achieving a special badge.

More importantly, had it not been for the people in Davao Bloggers, I would not have been able to find my old happy self again. **Insert emotional musical score here.** Seriously speaking, the closest people I'm with in the organization have been a witness to my heart's recent struggles. They offered me both sound and unsound advice on how to cope with it, but what I truly appreciate the most is the presence they made me feel during the darkest hours of my life. Because of them, I learned to embrace a more positive outlook in life since they always make me see and feel that there's always the good in everything. The people I become close with did not only end up as being just a colleague in the blogging community but had extended their selves to become my movie and food trip buddies, instant dates, super friends, Nanays and Tatays, which truly made me feel a part of an awesome family.

But of course, a family can't stand on its own all the time. It also needs the support and assistance of other families as well in order to grow. Big thanks to our Davao Bloggers Society Acquaintance Party 2013 Sponsors:

The happiness of a blogger does not lie on the nature of events nor in the perks that these offer, but it is with the people whom we learn to share a part of our life with. With that said, I learned to realize that blogging is more than just money-making or becoming a top blogger by creating a huge following, it is about opening yourself and your ideas to the world, and allowing yourself to grow and become the best that you can be in a community that has become like a family.

Thank you Davao Bloggers Society for making me feel a part of a real family!
