Cotabato Inaul at Moda Mindanaw 2014

8/18/2014

Maguindanao hand-woven fabric inaul captures the vibrant cultural heritage of the people of Cotabato City. Moda Mindanaw 2014 pays tribute to this Mindanaoan tradition on August 23.

Colors play a great role in expressing the Maguindanaoan state of being. Traditionally, yellow and orange represents royalty, red symbolizes bravery and courage, and green signifies peace and tranquillity. White is the color of purity, sadness and morning while black represents dignity.

This year’s Moda Mindanaw is mounted in partnership with the Province of Maguindanao. The partner LGU will provide 4-meter inaul fabric to participating designers. Designers are expected to incorporate the textile heritage to their creations of long gowns, men’s formal wear and ladies’ cocktail dress. Grand prize winner for each category will bag Php 20,000 while the 2nd and 3rd placers will take home Php 15,000 and Php 10,000, respectively. The event is also made possible by Cebu Pacific and Huawei.

Moda Mindanao consistent winning designer Manny Deiparine will be the event’s featured artist. Deiparine hails from Maguindanao and has made quite a reputation locally and overseas. Inaul has become an integral part of his design. Manny has been creating ensembles for the royalties of Maguindanao.

Catch spectacle of colors and modern silhouettes on the runway at Moda Mindanaw, August 23, 6 pm at the SM City Davao Annex Event Center.
