Getting Married Abroad

5/22/2013

Planning your dream wedding? Ever thought about getting married abroad? After all it is supposed to be the best day of your life so why not spare any expense and just go for it and why not have your wedding where you’re planning to honeymoon?  - This would be so fitting and friends and family can enjoy the sun too.

Ok, so if you can’t afford to pay for all of your guests to attend the wedding abroad, why not ask them to contribute a little something towards, especially if you’re planning on inviting loads of people to the wedding. You may think it sounds a little cheeky, but most would understand – why not just ask them and see what they think? Alternatively, ask a select few to go for your wedding day and have a pre-wedding party before you leave for all of the other guests.

Did you know that weddings are becoming more popular abroad and with good reason; many can work out cheaper than having an actual wedding within the UK, and with the weather more likely to be warmer and sunny, this really is ideal.

If and when you do decide to have your wedding abroad, there are so many options when deciding on where to have your wedding. Therefore, I have picked some of the best and most popular places for you to have your wedding.

There are lots of questions you need to answer and ask yourself before deciding upon what to do, but at the end of the day it is your day and you should make it a day you’ll never  forget! If he or she’s the one, you won’t ever get married again, so you really should make the most of it.

Destinations for Your Wedding Abroad
Most popular destinations for having your wedding abroad does not necessarily mean that this is the most luxurious destination; destinations can be popular for variety of reasons including, cost, climate, surroundings, facilities and so forth. Bearing that in mind, it is rather difficult sometimes to pick the best destination for you, as many people go for the most popular destinations and this isn’t just when they’re getting married abroad, but for holidays etc. When selecting, try choosing a place that is perfect for you; what do you like doing, what else is there on offer, what is you’re budget etc.

Destinations for your consideration:
  • Cyprus
  • Portugal
  • Kenya
  • Greece
  • Italy
  • Maldives
  • Caribbean
Each destination will differ in terms of what they can offer and at what cost, but every destination mentioned in the list above are almost guaranteed to give you sunshine on your big day and is that not one of the biggest worries that soon to be married couples face when they are planning on their wedding? I think so, but by no means am I surprised as it would be mine as it really would tarnish the day, but ever so slightly.

In the UK, it does rain a lot and is quite cold for the best part of the year, so I think if and when I get married; I would like to get married abroad.

Some countries do have certain rules about religion and being able to get married if you are/not part of certain religious groups. I know, this sounds completely wrong and slightly discriminative, but other countries = other rules. So, my advice to would be to just check with a travel agency or tour operator that specialises in arranging weddings abroad before setting your heart on a particular destination.

Types of Weddings Abroad

You don’t have to get married on a beach, there’s always a cruise ship if that’s more your thing and many people do, but again it’s all down to personal preference and being able to accommodate for the majority of you’re guests tastes. After all you want them to have a good time too, but just remember it is your wedding day.

In addition, there are specialised weddings that you can have abroad, such as medieval weddings, gothic weddings and so many more; basically any type of wedding that you can think of, it’s probably already been done or certainly are doable.
