Christmas Weekend At Seda Hotel Nuvali, Laguna

12/30/2014

It was a weekend before Christmas.

I’ve convinced myself enough to believe that I must have been really good (or maybe a bit bad) this year for Santa to drop in plane tickets on my Christmas sock. Plus an invitation for an overnight stay in Seda Nuvali came into my inbox a day prior to my flight. Indeed, it’s the most wonderful time of the year.

I finally had a taste of Christmas rush when I arrived at the airport only to find out that my flight was going to be delayed for three hours. I brushed my expectations of seeing the Ayala Triangle Christmas lights off my mind and killed the time by alternating a book and chatting with other passengers who were also waiting for their delayed flights. Charged it to experience, this flight was a blessing and I have no reason to complain because at the moment that I’ll be arriving in NAIA Terminal 3, there goes another blessing again.

Arriving late in Manila made us cancel the plans for the night and catch some much-needed sleep instead. The next day, he picked me up early at the hotel, grabbed some breakfast and spent some time roaming (and shopping, ehem!) around Makati before traveling to Sta. Rosa, Laguna for an overnight stay in Seda Hotel, Nuvali.

Driving along South Luzon Expressway, I spent time guessing the travel bloggers we’ll be spending the weekend with. He was not dropping any names but to his oblivion, I’m feeling ecstatic to finally have the chance to meet the faces behind the blogs I’m reading, the Instagram accounts I’m following, and of course, the people in some of his travel stories. We arrived at around 230pm at Seda Hotel Nuvali and contrary to what we were expecting, we were actually the last team to arrive. Boohoo!

A 150-room hotel which just opened in March this year, Seda Hotel is the first lifestyle hotel to open in the close to 2300 hectare growth center of Nuvali. The fourth in the country to bear the name, Seda Hotel in Nuvali is the first of its kind to integrate a lake into its design and offering a view of nature in almost every room.

Checking in was a breeze and each of us were given our own room keycards. True enough, I had a great view of the Nuvali lake, the Mt. Makiling towering from a distant, and the green fields in the periphery from Room 410, a Deluxe Room exclusively assigned for me. I sensed the King-size bed working its wonders on me but it had to wait since we still have a guided tour around the property and its nearby amenities.

HOTEL AMENITIES

We were ushered to the 9th floor where the Club Lounge is located. The Club Lounge offers all day refreshments, complimentary breakfasts, high tea and cocktails from 5pm-7pm exclusive for guests accommodated in Club and Premier Rooms. Aside from enjoying cocktails with an amazing view of sunset, guests can also lounge around on the comfortable couches, read periodicals and books, or work/play with the Apple computer provided in the area.

Guests also have access to the Fitness Center, comprising of the gym with a very good view of the pool, and the Seda’s Touch, the hotel’s in-house spa services. An ounce of regret surged into me as I chose not to bring my running shoes but it was very well-compensated with a pampering Shiatsu massage turned into a quick power nap the next day before leaving the hotel premises to travel back to Manila and catch my flight.

Seda Nuvali also has a function room which can accommodate up to 100 persons, perfect for meetings, parties, personal and corporate events.

For leisure, Seda Nuvali boasts of an infinity pool that gives you a beautiful view of the Nuvali lake. Best time to dip is at around 5pm-6pm as the pool is romantically lit.

The hotel also has a playroom for toddlers and kids, and a game room fully equipped with a PS4, Wii and Xbox 360 perfect for those who were young once. Games available is quite limited so better yet bring your own.

DINING

All-day dining is provided in the hotel’s in-house restaurant, Misto Restaurant, which only serves ala carte on regular basis. In time for the yuletide season, we were treated to a spread of selection for their Christmas buffet dinner, their complimentary buffet breakfast and a Japanese lunch. You can also choose to eat al fresco by the pool, which can be a perfect option most especially for parents while watching their kids enjoying the pool.

THE ROOM
After dinner and a game of Cards Against Humanity with the travel bloggers, I finally got the chance to establish rapport with the Deluxe Room assigned to me- a 30 square meter air-conditioned room huge enough for a single occupant and equipped with a massive king-size bed that is bigger than me no matter what sleeping position I assumed.

Heavenly as I can call it and all mine for the night, I found it difficult to leave the bed the next morning as I woke up wrapped in soft sheets and surrounded with fluffy pillows.

Basically, the room had everything I needed for a comfortable stay. It has a 40-inch LED HDTV, a study desk with a media panel which has HDMI, USB and audio-visual connectivity, an IDD phone, a closet with hangers, bathrobes and slippers, in-room safe, hair dryer, a mini-bar, coffee and tea-making facilities, and complimentary bottled water. Power sockets are numerous and are located in the useful places that charging multiple gadgets at the same time was never an issue. Wi-fi in all places is considerably reliable and no longer asks for passwords before connecting.

As always, my favorite part of the room is the bay window where I was able to finish Lang Leav’s Lullabies in just an hour while watching the sunrise and the people doing different activities alongside the perimeter of the lake.

The toilet and bath is spacious and clean and comes with a generous eco-friendly toiletry kit made exclusively for Seda.

WHAT TO DO IN NUVALI
Nuvali is fast becoming to be an alternative to Tagaytay in terms of a variety of leisure amenities and outdoor activities to choose from.

It has a 17km long buffer green and forest zone for bird-watching, trekking, off-road and leisure biking, the Republic Wakepark Nuvali for wakeboarding, and the soon to be opened Camp N for team building and camping activities.

You can also do fish-feeding or cruising along the lake on board the water taxi for only P30/head from 8am-5pm. For those who are not so into outdoors, shopping in outlet stores in Solenad 1 and 2 or just strolling around Nuvali can be another option.

Spotted Elsa's Ice Castle while driving around Nuvali

Since it is conveniently located near office buildings, industrial facilities and outlet stores, Seda Nuvali has been the best choice of accommodation for both leisure guests, weekenders and business travelers.

Another thing noteworthy about Seda Nuvali is the exceptional service. During my entire stay, every staff was very eager to assist us with all our needs and never failed to always serve us with a smile.

To say that the hotel is beautiful is an understatement. Its modern façade doesn’t detract from, but actually compliments well with, its natural surroundings. From the lobby, to the interiors and down to the lounge areas, every thing was deliberately constructed to provide a balance between the natural and the man-made, the indoors and the outdoors, and the Filipino touch (local) with the world-class.

I personally want to take home one of these cocoon chairs by Ann Pamintuan because aside from the fact that it’s very attractive, I can just lie there all day, immerse myself in solitude and enjoy the tranquil environment. Being in tune with nature once in a while doesn’t hurt and I know that just like me, you can’t also resist a quick respite like that. A quick respite I’m finding really hard to move on until I faced the reality of going back to Davao. And only Seda Hotel can give you such feeling.

Thank you very much, Seda Nuvali, for an awesome weekend!
